The Galaxy Z Fold 5 didn’t grab as much attention as the Z Flip 5, primarily due to its design remaining almost unchanged and the hardware specs feeling quite familiar from the previous year. However, upon testing the device for our Galaxy Z Fold 5 video review, we discovered that Samsung’s new flagship foldable phone offers more than initially meets the eye.
We divided our video review into three segments: Design, Cameras, and Software. Across all these aspects, Samsung has introduced substantial improvements this year. While it’s true that there haven’t been any hardware upgrades to the camera, Samsung has compensated for this with enhanced software optimization and the integration of AI. Additionally, the functionality of Flex Mode remains as excellent as ever.
Initially, the concern surrounding the Galaxy Z Fold 5 was its striking resemblance to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 4. However, this similarity isn’t inherently negative, as we’ve seen with the Galaxy S22 and S23 series that refining a design can often lead to a better user experience than a complete design overhaul.
Samsung took the lessons it learned and implemented them in the Galaxy Z Fold 5, resulting in a device that is both lighter and thinner than its predecessors. In fact, it’s the slimmest foldable phone ever manufactured by the company. What’s more, Samsung introduced a new gapless hinge to the Z Fold 5, which, while not immediately evident in renders and videos, significantly enhances the overall user experience. The efforts made by Samsung in this regard are truly praiseworthy and make it a worthy successor.
Furthermore, Samsung has improved multitasking on the Galaxy Z Fold 5 with the introduction of One UI 5.1.1. This upgrade has made features like multi-window and Pop-up view more user-friendly, and the enhanced taskbar streamlines the experience further by allowing users to switch between recent apps with a single screen tap.
